Peter is Professor of Applied Economics and Director of the Centre for Employment Research at the University of Westminster. Most of his time is spent leading studies that use Big Data to answer questions for policymakers and business. Over the last 15 years he has been commissioned by DfE, MoJ, MoD, HMRC, BEIS, DIT and DWP to lead studies that tackle issues of education and social mobility, equality and diversity, entrepreneurship, employment relations and housing. Peter’s academic and policy work covers around 100 published outputs; and he has provided expert advice to a range of bodies including the Cabinet Office, National Audit Office, Ernst & Young and Diageo. He is Principle Investigator for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded study, 'Early Identification of Young People at Risk of Poor Educational and Labour Market Outcomes' and co-investigator on a large ESRC-funded study of Managerial competences, engagement and productivity. Peter's expertise in the area of Technical Education has been recognized with an invite to Number 10 Downing Street and In 2019 he was commissioned by HM Treasury to produce a series of podcasts that are now the main technical support materials for policy professionals in the Treasury.
