Associate Professor, Organizational Behaviour, Athabasca University
I am an Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour in the Faculty of Business at Athabasca University in Alberta, Canada. I am also a former Chief Superintendent with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in which I held significant operational roles, and leadership roles implementing cultural change within the RCMP. For example, prior to my retirement in 2016, I was responsible for overseeing the RCMP response to serious allegations of gender discrimination and harassment.
Currently, I conduct research into organizational cultures that contribute to the marginalization and exclusion of women and other diverse groups within male-dominated organizations, with a particular emphasis on law enforcement. I also explore various aspects of the functioning of police organizations, including the application of organizational justice both internally and externally. My work has been recognized in various media outlets in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States (The Washington Post). I have also published my research in peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Social Issues and the International Journal of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
In addition to my research work, I consult extensively with police services in Canada and internationally. I am also a sought-after speaker and workshop facilitator.
I hold a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Business Administration, and a doctorate in Public Policy and Administration, with a specialization in leadership and management.
