Amy Chan

Senior Clinical Research Fellow, University of Auckland
Dr Amy Chan is a senior clinical research fellow at the School of Pharmacy, University of Auckland, NZ, and holds an honorary post at the Centre of Behavioural Medicine, University College London. She is a clinical pharmacist academic and is currently in a joint-appointment between the University and Auckland District Health Board. Amy completed her PhD in medicines-related behaviour which investigated the effect of a digital adherence intervention on treatment adherence in asthma. Amy has nearly 15 years’ experience in the public health service, where she led the clinical pharmacy service in mental health, was the co-convenor for the New Zealand Hospital Pharmacists' Association Mental Health Special Interest Group and was involved in health service delivery research.

Since then, Amy has led on several research projects in the area of behavioural medicine – specifically on understanding patterns of health behaviour in individuals and in health professionals, and the factors which influence these behaviours. She has specific expertise on medicines-related behaviour such as medicines adherence, and the role of digital interventions to promote health behaviour change. Amy is also a member of the WHO health workers hub, the global lead for workforce transformation with FIP, and the Commonwealth Pharmacists’ Association Professional Development and Research Lead. Amy also provides consultancy to medical research organisations, charities and non-government organisations, and has been involved in developing patient-centric programmes in a variety of healthcare settings. She has skills in both qualitative and quantitative research approaches and human-centred research.
