Tuuli Hakkarainen

Lecturer (Assistant professor) in Human Resource Management, University of Liverpool
Tuuli Hakkarainen is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Organisational behavior at the Work, Organisation and Management subject group at the University of Liverpool Management School. Tuuli obtained her PhD in International Business from Aalto University School of Business, Finland. Her interdisciplinary research draws from international business and organisational studies with the focus on topical managerial challenges related to expertise sharing, language, and team performance in knowledge-intensive collaboration. Her research has been published in Strategic Management Journal.

Tuuli’s doctoral dissertation entitled “Sharing expertise within the MNC” has been selected as a finalist for the “Buckley & Casson Award for the Best IB Dissertation” at the Academy of International Business (AIB) in 2021 and the winner of “The Best Doctoral Dissertation Proposal” at AIB 2019. Two of her three dissertation papers have received “The Michael Z. Brooke Prize” for the best doctoral student paper at AIB (UK & Ireland Chapter) in 2018 and been nominated as the runner up for the “Copenhagen Business School Prize” at the European International Business Academy (EIBA) conference in 2017. Tuuli is specialized in qualitative research methods, including linguistic analysis.

Her other research collaborations focus on managing global projects and brands as well as the role of new digital technologies, including robotization of the global HR and applications of the blockchain technology in multinational corporations.

Before joining the University of Liverpool, Tuuli worked as an Adjunct Professor at Bocconi University in Italy and has completed multiple research visits in universities in Europe and Asia. Before academia, she worked in HR-related roles as well as in the financial and educational sectors in Finland.
