Biologiste depuis 1993 (UQAC), il a complété une maîtrise en 1997 puis un doctorat en 2002 en Sciences forestières (U. Laval). Lors de ses études postdoctorales amorcées en 2002 au département des sciences fondamentales de l’UQAC, il développa une expertise de recherche sur la lutte aux changements climatiques dans le secteur forestier et ses nombreuses interfaces sectorielles. Il est un des experts ayant fait partie du Groupe de Travail Forêt et Changements Climatiques (GTFCC), un groupe interuniversitaire formé en 2017 dont le principal mandat est de quantifier le potentiel de contribution du secteur forestier du Québec à la cible de réduction des émissions de GES de la province. Professeur en éco-conseil à l’UQAC depuis 2014, il enseigne notamment dans le programme court de 2e cycle sur la transition socio-écologique, un programme unique qui s’adresse à tout professionnel de tous acabit et de l’ensemble des secteurs (transport, bâtiment, industrie, énergie, forêt et agriculture) désireux d’acquérir des compétences multiples utiles à leur activité professionnelle dans le contexte du développement durable, de la transition socio-écologique et de la lutte aux changements climatiques. Dans son enseignement comme dans sa recherche, le prof. Boucher se positionne comme porteur de l’idée d’une lutte aux changements climatiques qui participe activement à la transition socio-écologique, dans une approche éco-conseil de la prise en compte des enjeux et opportunités de nature tant scientifique, que humaine et sociale.
