Anthropologue, Directrice de recherche au CNRS, Laboratoire d'anthropologie sociale, École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS)

Marie Mauzé, anthropologue spécialiste de l’art et de la culture matérielle des sociétés amérindiennes de Colombie britannique (Canada), a découvert les œuvres de l’artiste haïda Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas grâce à Claude Lévi-Strauss.

Née en 1953 à Poitiers, Marie Mauzé a obtenu un Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Anthropology, History, Art, Education), à l’Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, Etats-Unis, en 1976, puis a soutenu une thèse de doctorat de troisième cycle en anthropologie, à l’ EHESS, Paris, en 1985, sous la direction de Michel Izard. Elle est entrée dans le corps des chercheurs comme chargée de recherche au Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) en 1986 ; elle a rejoint le Laboratoire d’anthropologie sociale la même année. Elle se consacre depuis plus de trente ans à l’étude des sociétés de la côte nord-ouest de l’Amérique du Nord. Elle a effectué plusieurs missions de longue durée chez les Kwakwak’awak de la Colombie britannique (Canada) depuis 1980. Elle a également mené des enquêtes chez les Nuu-cha-nuulth et les Nuxalk. Elle a publié de nombreux articles dans des revues françaises et étrangères, et dans des ouvrages collectifs. Ses recherches actuelles concernent principalement l’anthropologie de l’art et des objets.
