I qualified in medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2005 and worked in various specialities and countries before finishing my GP training in 2012. After a period working in the north east of England and then Australia, I moved to the Peak District and began undertaking research at the University of Manchester. I have since been appointed an National Institute for Health Research funded In-Practice Fellow and am working on the team evaluating the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. An In-Practice Fellowship is a part-time academic position funded by the NHS designed to develop the academic career of GPs. I have a diverse range of research interests including the funding of primary care, preventative and lifestyle medicine, behaviour change, overdiagnosis and the use of IT in primary care. Alongside my research, I continue to see patients as a GP in Buxton.
