Emily Spiers

Lecturer in Creative Futures, Lancaster University
Emily Spiers is an Anniversary Lecturer in Creative Futures at the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Institute for Social Futures at Lancaster University. Her work focuses on future-oriented, innovative trends in communicative and literary practices, and explores how futures are being envisaged, anticipated and made through art and literature. Her most recent book, Pop-Feminist Narratives: The Female Subject under Neoliberalism in North America, Britain and Germany, was published in 2018 with OUP.

She is co-editing handbooks on World Authorship and Social Futures for OUP and Routledge. She has co-edited a 2016 special issue of Oxford German Studies on ‘Fractured Legacies: Historical, Cultural and Political Perspectives on German Feminism’. She has contributed a chapter on Kate Tempest and creative futures to the forthcoming OUP volume, Homer's Daughters - Women's Responses to Homer 1914-2014. Further recent articles on digital performances of authorship have appeared in the journals Feminist Media Studies, and Woman: A Cultural Review. She is a member of the editorial board for the comparative literature section of Liverpool University Press’s online journal Modern Languages Open.
