Rodante van der Waal (she/they) is a PhD-candidate in Care Ethics at the University of Humanistic Studies in Utrecht, a lecturer in care ethics, and an independent midwife in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. They have a BA in midwifery, and a BA and MA in Philosophy (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam. Their research focus is on obstetric violence and reproductive justice from feminist, postcolonial and abolitionist perspectives. Their academic papers have been published in Violence Against Women, Feminist Theory, Social Text, Angelaki, Frontiers, Agenda, Feminist Anthropology, Technophany, Birth, PLOS ONE and Nursing Ethics. They are a founding member of the Critical Midwifery Studies Collective, the editor of Contractions, a political podcast on midwifery, and part of the Abortion Network Amsterdam.
