Throughout my education and work experience I have always had a strong focus on young people. I am especially interested in young people as political actors and citizens, and have done research on young people who are politically active in political parties youth wings, the British Youth Council and who attended the 2010 student demonstrations. I am also interested in the youth specific ways to engage politically, such as the youth wings, where you automatically acquire and lose membership depending on your age.
In my current research I explore the role of the family in young people's employment pathways and achievement of economic self-sufficiency. The project is a cross-national, multidiciplinary EU funded project, using mixed methods to collect two and three generational data. Here we look specifically at the mechanisms of transmission of capital and values within the family and how this affects young people's pathways and achievement of econoimc self-sufficiency.
