Epidemiologist, Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute, University of the Witwatersrand
Joel Msafiri Francis is an epidemiologist working with the University of the Witwatersrand at Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute. He has a joint appointment as a researcher at the School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences.
He has experience in conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and analysing rigorous quantitative observational and experimental studies (cluster-randomized trials, randomized clinical trials), systematic reviews and meta-analysis, implementation science and classical epidemiology studies. His research interests has been on HIV, Alcohol and Other Drug Use, Mental Health, and Health Systems in Africa.
He holds an MD from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and an MSc Epidemiology from Harvard University, USA and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of London (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), UK.
