Professor of History; Director of the Global Research Institute, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill I am an economic historian who works in the fields of US, Southeast Asian, and global economic history. I have published widely in these areas, both in scholarly venues and in magazines and newspapers. I have been at UNC-Chapel Hill since 1984, but have also taught at Columbia and Harvard. In 2005 I was Raffles Professor of History at the National University of Singapore.
