Professor of Sociology and Public Health, Lancaster University I am a sociologist whose primary interest is in research illuminating social, economic and environmental causes of socio-economic inequalities in health. I have a particular interest in how 'lay experiential knowledge' (what Aristotle labelled practical wisdom) can illuminate these pathways and whether initiatives aimed at enhancing the collective control disadvantaged people have over decisions that impact on their lives can promote health
