Suman is Subject Leader in Film and Screen Studies. He was a reporter with national daily The Asian Age, India, when he opted for an academic career and joined Jadavpur University, India, as Lecturer in Comparative Literature. He completed his Ph.D on the films and screenplays of Satyajit Ray from Lancaster University, UK. He taught Film Studies in the universities of Lancaster and Central Lancashire before joining Bath Spa University in September 2010.
Suman leads undergraduate modules on Hollywood Cinema, Film Noir and Indian Cinema. He is currently engaged in developing the university’s film provision on World Cinema. He has developed modules on "Key Movements in World Cinema" and "Scripting for Screen" which are part of the new BA Honours programme in Film Television and Digital Production.
