My research addresses energy and transportation with a focus on environmental challenges especially oil use, CO2 emissions and climate mitigation options. I also address energy and climate policy more broadly and direct the University of Michigan Energy Survey. My teaching and advising work has addressed transportation energy policy and sustainable energy systems as well as student research in other energy and environmental topics. Prior to joining the University of Michigan faculty in 2009, I was senior fellow for automotive strategies at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF; 2001-2009), transportation director at the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE; 1990-2000) and a staff scientist at the National Audubon Society (1988-1990).

Sonia Livingstone

Sonia Livingstone is a full professor in the Department of Media and Communications at LSE. She teaches master's courses in media and communications theory, methods, and audiences, and supervises doctoral students researching questions of audience, publics and users in the changing media landscape. She is author or editor of eighteen books and many academic articles and chapters. She has been visiting professor at the Universities of Bergen, Copenhagen, Harvard, Illinois, Milan, Paris II, and Stockholm, and is on the editorial board of several leading journals. She is past President of the International Communication Association, ICA. Sonia was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2014 'for services to children and child internet safety.' Taking a comparative, critical and contextualised approach, Sonia's research asks why and how the changing conditions of mediation are reshaping everyday practices and possibilities for action, identity and communication rights. Her empirical work examines the opportunities and risks afforded by digital and online technologies, including for children and young people at home and school, for developments in media and digital literacies, and for audiences, publics and the public sphere more generally.

I have been a Lecturer in International Relations at Salford since February 2016. I completed my doctoral research at the University of Kent’s Brussels School of International Studies on non-Western foreign policies towards the Iranian nuclear programme. During this time, I also was a visiting Research Fellow at China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), Beijing, at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, Brussels, and at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. I am a seminar leader in the modules ‘US Foreign Policy’ and ‘Theories of Power and Domination’ (Level 6) and contribute to teaching in the module ‘International Politics 2’ (Level 4). My research focuses on Russian foreign policy, Russian-Western relations, and their impact on the international relations of the post-Soviet space and the Middle East. I have researched Chinese, Russian, and Turkish foreign policies towards Iran and the controversial politics surrounding sanctions policies. I also have an interest in EU diplomacy and US Foreign Policy.
