‘Doctor Who’ Season 10 Cast, Updates: Michelle Gomez Set to Reprise Role as the Master’s Female Incarnation Missy; Peter Capaldi Hints at Exit

Michelle Gomez plays Missy on BBC One's 'Doctor Who'

‘Doctor Who’ season 10 is set to feature the return of Michelle Gomez as the Master’s female Incarnation, Missy. Meanwhile, Peter Capaldi hinted of an imminent exit from the series as he is unsure how long he would be staying on as the 12th the Doctor.

According to Inverse, Gomez is confirmed to return as the diabolical the Mistress, “Missy” in short. She was last seen in the season 9 episode, “The Witch’s Familiar”. Gomez said, “I can officially say that I will be starting back on Doctor Who soon, so that’s one thing.”

The 49-year old Scottish actress may be wreaking havoc for the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and his new companion Bill (Pearl Mackie) in the incoming season of the popular science-fiction television show scheduled to premiere on April 2017. Her last appearance on the show featured her teaming up briefly with Clara and the Doctor but eventually betraying them in the end. It is unclear whether the Mistress will be returning as a true villain.

Gomez plays the female incarnation of the titular the Doctor’s archenemy and renegade alien Time Lord, the Master. The original Master was portrayed by Roger Delgado from 1971 through 1973 and succeeded by a string of actors including Peter Pratt, Geoffrey Beevers, and Anthony Anley. Since the series’ revival in 2005, the Master has been portrayed by Derek Jacobi, John Simm, and Gomez.

The actress is also known for her work on the British sitcom ‘Green Wing’, the British comedy-drama ‘The Book Group’, the British sitcom ‘Bad Education’. She also appeared in a guest role as The Lady in Fox’s crime television series ‘Gotham’, based on DC’s Batman franchise.

Joining Gomez in the returning cast is Matt Lucas, who plays the character Nardole.

Meanwhile, it is unknown as to how long Capaldi’s stint as the 12th Doctor would go. According to Digital Spy, the 58-year old award-winning actor and director hinted at an imminent departure from the long-running BBC One series saying, "It's terrifying… I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over.”

He added, "When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye… Doctor Who is a very difficult thing to say goodbye to and I don't want to make that decision right now… When I am forced to make that decision, I will make it."

‘Doctor Who’ season 10 is scheduled to premiere on April 2017. It is a British science-fiction series airing on BBC One. It has been produced by the BBC since the 1960s and follows the adventures of a space and time-traveling humanoid alien called the Doctor.
