Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto have ushered in the second chapter of their Spring/Summer 2024 collection, continuing to explore the compelling concept of Contra-Natural. This latest iteration is a testament to the ongoing tension that defines the Y-3 brand, navigating between the realms of sport and boundary-pushing design, the organic versus the synthetic, and the juxtaposition of linear perfection against natural imperfection.
Dynamic Apparel and Refined Aesthetics
For Chapter 2, Y-3 presents a selection of dynamic apparel that pivots around refined cotton twill workwear-inspired garments and reimagined sporting classics. According to a press release, this season's collection brings subtle yet bold overshirts, cargo pants, and tops, each meticulously constructed with utility pockets and adjustable hems.
An updated interpretation of the iconic Adidas Superstar Tracksuit receives an elevation with topographical map piping.
The addition of garments inspired by Adidas' Teamgeist soccer jerseys, adorned with a digital rust print that mirrors the natural oxidation process, rounds out the apparel offerings.
Innovative Accessories and Footwear
Complementing the apparel, Chapter 2 introduces a series of signature accessories, including nylon backpacks, totes, and holdalls, underscoring Y-3's attention to detail and innovative design philosophy. The footwear segment is equally compelling, featuring an expressive selection of silhouettes that reinterpret Adidas performance running technology.
Pause Mag noted that the highlights include the Y-3 PRIME X 2 STRUNG and the Y-3 ADIOS PRO 3.0, available in three colorways, alongside updates to the Y-3 WATER SLIDE, Y-3 SANDAL, and a novel iteration of the Y-3 ITOGO with engineered print straps.
A Visually Striking Campaign
Y-3's Spring/Summer 2024 Chapter 2 is brought to life through a visceral campaign that captures the essence of navigating the city with freedom, liberation, and lightness. Directed by Francis Plumber and styled by Robbie Spencer, the campaign features freerunners moving through urban landscapes with unmatched perseverance and composure, embodying the collection's spirit of Contra-Natural.
