SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 13, 2016 -- Many vision patients appreciate clear, 20/20 vision whether it comes naturally or is obtained with the help of corrective eyewear. However, those who are blind or have low vision don't have the luxury of correcting their vision with glasses, contacts or surgery. Instead, many rely on the assistance of guide dogs.
Sacramento's Arena Eye Care, 2087 Arena Boulevard Suite #120, has found a unique way to help vision-impaired individuals who rely on guide dogs. Each autumn the optometry center holds a promotion to benefit a charity as well as clients. This year, Arena Eye Care is hosting a 20/20 Christian Dior sale, from which 20 percent of sales will benefit the organization Guide Dogs for the Blind.
"Customers will receive 20 percent off Christian Dior frames and sunglasses through the end of the year, or until we run out of selections," Dr. Krister Holmberg says. "We'll donate 20 percent of their purchase price to Guide Dogs for the Blind, an organization which all of us at Arena Eye Care feel passionate about."
Dior eyewear is known for their bold and charming frames, round aviator styling, and unique patterned selections. Their designer eyewear collection has been popular worldwide with supermodels and celebrities for decades.
The purchase of Dior frames made during the rest of the year will directly benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB). This organization has trained guide dogs and the visually impaired to work together since 1942. They provide their dogs and all of their training services to visually impaired clients free of charge in the U.S. and Canada. This includes personalized training and post-graduation support as well as veterinary care when needed.
Guide Dogs for the Blind has an extensive network of volunteers, many of whom raise and train guide dog puppies in their own homes. A network of donors, including Arena Eye Care, contributes to the program. On their website, GDB notes it receives no government funding. It adds that the "average GDB client will have four guide dogs in the course of their lifetime."
GDB stays in touch with program graduates through its alumni association, which develops chapters, organizes activities, and creates opportunities for networking and mentoring.
"At Arena Eye Care, we admire the sense of community that Guide Dogs for the Blind builds among the visually impaired," says Dr. Holmberg, who runs the eyewear clinic along with Dr. Shephali Patel.
Arena Eye Care serves Sacramento, Natomas, Sacramento West, Davis and surrounding communities.
