Briferendum Series: Betting market odds shift to 76 pct for ‘Remain’

As per the latest from the betting-market Betfair, odds for ‘Remain’ has jumped back this week to 76 percent in favor of the ‘Remain’ camp. Last week that same odds dropped to lowest ever to 59 percent, while the exit possibility reached 41 percent, its highest ever. Historically speaking, the betting market has usually proved to be right, which is a definite good news for those who wants to stay in the Union.

Since last week, several polls have indicated that after the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox, sentiment has shifted in favor of the ‘Remain’.  The 52-year old man’s initial communications “Britain comes first” suggest it was the MP’s vocal support for Britain to remain in the Union that cost her life. Along with that, passionate pleas from European leaders, especially from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who bought an ad in UK’s Daily Mail urging support for the remain might have changed the mood. Former captain of England and most celebrated football player in Britain, David Beckham also explained his stance to remain in the union.

Though uncertainties over the final outcome remain, it is now increasingly likely that Britons will vote to stay in the Union.

The pound is currently trading at 1.468 against the dollar.
