“Cowboy Bebop” is an iconic anime series that fans have come to love and adore, which is why no one has had the guts to go for a revival. Unfortunately, it would seem that this respect is not something that Netflix shares since it now wants to create a live-action adaptation of the anime. This is a nightmare scenario for those who love the Japanese property and don’t want its memory ruined by money-grubbing executives.
Anime fans dread live-action adaptations of their favorite shows even when they are done by Japanese film-makers, but Hollywood has been especially guilty of butchering beloved franchises. One of the most recent to be placed on the chopping block was “Death Note,” which was widely panned as an abomination. Now, Netflix is aiming to do the same to “Cowboy Bebop.”
Of course, there is a chance that the Netflix adaptation is going to be an excellent one and a good live-action version of “Cowboy Bebop” will finally come into existence. However, based solely on past attempts by the streaming service to bring other anime shows to life, this is highly unlikely. In fact, the opposite has a much higher potential of coming about.
This is why many “Cowboy Bebop” fans are now expressing their anguish and fears with regards to the plans of a live-action adaptation by Netflix. They believe that this can only end in their beloved anime becoming a quick cash-grab and will not yield a high-quality show that is worthy of its iconic status.
For now, the only thing that fans of “Cowboy Bebop” can do is wait for the final product that Netflix is going to put out and pray to the anime gods that it is going to be good. After all, it isn’t as if a good live-action adaptation of an anime or a manga is unheard of.
