President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that conservative talk show host Dan Bongino will serve as deputy director of the FBI. Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and NYPD officer, was appointed by newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel. Since the position does not require Senate approval, Bongino can assume the role immediately.

Trump praised Bongino as a patriot with "incredible love and passion for our country," adding that he is willing to step away from his widely followed "Dan Bongino Show" podcast to take on the position. The podcast, ranked 56th in the U.S. on Spotify, has been a major platform for Bongino’s conservative views.

Bongino’s appointment strengthens Trump's push to reshape key government institutions ahead of the 2024 election. With Patel at the helm, the FBI’s leadership is undergoing a significant shift, signaling potential policy and operational changes within the agency.

Trump supporters see Bongino’s law enforcement background and outspoken stance against government overreach as assets in the role. However, critics argue his media background and strong political alignment could impact the FBI’s neutrality.

The move is part of a broader strategy by Trump to install allies in influential positions, a tactic he has openly embraced as he eyes a return to the White House. With Bongino and Patel leading the FBI, changes in federal law enforcement priorities could be on the horizon.

Trump's announcement has sparked widespread debate, underscoring the deep political divide surrounding the future of U.S. law enforcement.
