The first episode for “Doctor Who” season 11, titled “The Woman Who Fell to Earth,” will not just be the official start of Jodie Whitakker's tenure as the beloved Thirteenth Doctor. The show's season premiere episode will also be the debut of the Doctor's new companions, Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh).
In an interview with RadioTimes, Jodie Whittaker mentions her excitement about becoming the first female actress to portray the Doctor. Whittaker shares that she felt the time was right to have a female Time Lord and takes great delight in making the heroic Doctor a role model for girls across the world as well.
Jodie Whittaker took on the mantle of Time Lord from Peter Capaldi for “Doctor Who” season 11 as is the tradition of each iteration of the show's seasons. While there are fans who may be shocked by having a female Doctor being cast, general reception of Whittaker's casting has been mostly positive, with “Doctor Who” season 11 showrunner Chris Chibnall expressing delight in the warm, energetic, and friendly vibe that Whittaker's Doctor will be taking.
Fans looking forward to the new adventures of Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor can catch “Doctor Who” season 11 when it returns with its new Sunday schedule on Oct. 7.
