“Doctor Who” Season 11 is off to an amazing start, with the show’s premiere on BBC America hitting substantial jumps in ratings since the era of Peter Capaldi. Jodie Whittaker is also quite at ease in her new role, with the global simulcast of the show’s new season showcasing her talents to the world. However, even with the premiere seemingly uniting fans and reviewers, haters still find issues with the show.
There are a couple of firsts in the case of “Doctor Who” Season 11, Deadline reports, the first of which is the fact that it was simulcast to premiere globally. This basically meant that fans of the series could watch the first episode of “Doctor Who” Season 11 on the same day and at the same time. This new season is also the first time that a female actor was cast for the role of The Doctor.
Naturally, when it was announced that Jodie Whittaker would be taking the reins of The Doctor, there was a considerable backlash. Many argued that this was nothing more than the BBC bending to the whims of feminists and social justice warriors, and threatened to boycott the show. Clearly, the ratings of the “Doctor Who” Season 11 premiere prove that these sentiments were held by the minority.
The first episode of “Doctor Who” Season 11 delivered a 0.5 rating. In the U.K., it drew in 8.2 million viewers, beating previous records from other Doctors.
As Comicbook.com notes, the show seems to have united both the fans and the critics, with “Doctor Who” Season 11 being certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. So, with this being the case, who exactly has any cause to complain about the show’s success?
That would be those who still believe that it’s basically feminist and SJW propaganda masquerading as “Doctor Who.” Fortunately, they compose only a small number in society and the rest of the fans can watch “Doctor Who” Season 11 on BBC America at 8 p.m. ET, every Sunday.
