Ellen DeGeneres was able to return on broadcast through “The Ellen Show” season 18 last month. In the premiere, the 62-year-old host addressed the allegations in a light atmosphere. She also vowed that her staff will be so proud to work for her from now on. DeGeneres went on to apologize to everyone who might have been affected and those she may have hurt.
“We have made the necessary changes, and today, we are starting a new chapter,” Ellen said in her opening monologue.“The truth is, I am that person you see on TV and I am also a lot of other things - sometimes, I get sad. I get mad. I get anxious. I get frustrated. I get impatient and I am working on all of that. I am a work in progress.”
Strong start turned worst
The very first episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ long-running talk show was said to have recorded the highest viewership ratings. Although this was taken as a sign that the show has gotten past the negative vibes of the scandal, the true effects were felt just this month.
USA Today reported that in truth, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” is now struggling to keep up its rating that continues to drop since the premiere. It was stated that it became clear that the host was not able to win back most of the viewers following her toxic workplace scandal.
Based on the records, last month’s ratings of Ellen’s show dropped by 38 percent compared to last year. This just shows that the controversies surrounding the true attitude of Ellen have negatively impacted the program despite getting good feedback on the premiere.
As per Neilsen Media Research, the episode on Sept. 21 garnered an average of 1.2 million viewers. This shows a 29 percent drop from “The Ellen Show’s” 2019 premiere that recorded a total of 2.67 million viewers.
Friends’ still supports Ellen
Meanwhile, many of Ellen DeGeneres’ friends have expressed their support as she deals with all the controversies. Some of them have also appeared in the first week of “The Ellen Show” they encourage the host to just continue what she has been doing.
For instance, Alec Baldwin was on the program via Zoom and he told Ellen, "I have followed your career from when you were doing stand-up and you were a solo performer, I have watched the films you've done, and I've watched your success on this TV show, we all have some patches of white water here, but you keep going. Don’t you stop doing what you’re doing."
