“Fortnite” recently wrapped its World Cup Finals and minted a new millionaire in Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf. Bugha dominated the Solo Competition throughout the event, earning nearly twice as many points as the opponents trailing him.
In the end, “Fortnite” awarded the 16-year-old with a whopping $3 million after finishing first among the 100 competitors who participated in the grueling run. To put that prize into perspective, Tiger Woods won $2.07 million after winning the Master and locking his 15th title.
Even with gaming analysts saying that the popularity of “Fortnite” is fading, the turnout during the event indicated the opposite. People from different age groups showed.
Fortnite launching season 10 on Aug. 1
Families were milling around enjoying the theme park-like venue. Teenagers went in groups eagerly waiting for their favorite player to show off their skills. And pro-players walked to and fro amidst fans snapping photos left and right. The “Fortnite” event was a success, TheVerge reported.
The tournament also provided a sneak peek to the upcoming season 10 of the game. Slated to drop on Aug. 1, the upcoming “Fortnite” update will be introducing a new theme for the game. And it appears that Epic has chosen a time-warp motif as hinted by the images released in the event, GameSpot reported.
For instance, it appears that Dusty Depot will be making a return after it was transformed into Dusty Divot following the location getting destroyed by a meteor in season four. A new “Fortnite” skin has also been introduced in the form of a mechanical suit.
Epic Games planning more Fortnite events for Season 10
As for the catalyst that will herald these changes, it appears that it will come from the Vault in Loot Lake. It could be remembered that the area has been damaged during the collision of the giant robot and colossal monster, which ended when the former impaled the latter with a massive blade. Since then, the Vault’s stability has been spiraling out of control. More “Fortnite” Season 10 revelation will likely be dropping tomorrow as Epic tries to bring additional hype for the upcoming cycle.
As for the future of the game, it appears that Epic has a lot of plans for “Fortnite” as evidenced by their acquisition of Nate Nanzer who previously worked with “Overwatch.” A competitive “Fornite” Championship Series for Season 10 will be put in place, and it would be interesting to see how it will shape the game moving forward.
