Global Geo-political Series: Saudi Arabia reportedly given Qatar 24-hour ultimatum

There is a report circulating in the media since yesterday that Saudi Arabia has given Qatar, which is at the center of recent brawl in the Middle East a 24-hour deadline to meet 10 conditions, which includes putting an end to its funding of extremist ideology and terrorist groups such as Hizbollah, as well as taking a harder stance towards Iran.

The widely circulating report originally stemmed from a tweet from the official account of SkyNews Arabia, which is based in the United Arab Emirates. Here is the link to that tweet, https://twitter.com/SkyNewsArabia_B/status/872190564824907776

Political analysts are fearing that the current diplomatic rift with Qatar can turn into a military conflict, which could engulf the entire region as Iran is likely to come in support of its claims in the region. While military conflicts are already a reality, they have so far been in the form of a proxy war in Syria and Yemen via different rebel groups, but a direct conflict would be far more damaging.

In a call to the Saudi King Salman, President Trump has urged unity in the region to fight extremism, however, his tweets show support for Saudi Arabia despite the fact that Qatar hosts the biggest US military base in the region.
