‘Gotham’ is set to debut its final episode for the second season on May 23. The 22nd episode, entitled “Transference”, will follow James Gordon and Bruce Wayne’s struggle of stopping Hugo Strange’s inmates from escaping. It may possibly set the stage for a final showdown between the good and evil forces of Gotham City.

According to an article on Carter Matt, the upcoming season-ender is set to bring the second season to a dramatic close as it prepares to bring full focus on an impending new threat for Gotham City. The synopsis stated that Hugo Strange’s inmates plan to stage an escape as James Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), and Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) remain at Indian Hill, a research facility underneath the Arkham Asylum.

It was also revealed that Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), who is holding a grudge against Hugo (BD Wong), will be making an appearance at the finale despite being missing for most parts in season 2. Things may take an interesting turn as Oswald fights to get what he wants.

The final episode follows “A Legion of Horribles” aired last May 16. According to Melty, episode 21 saw James, Bruce, and Lucius captured on their attempt to find the secret room under Arkham Asylum where Strange allegedly conducts bizarre experiments with the dead. The three also struggled to accuse Strange with involvement in the murder of Bruce’s parents Thomas and Martha.

Meanwhile, Strange managed to resurrect Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) after a successful experiment. Fish, who returns in a more powerful form, is augmented with cuttlefish DNA and becomes Strange’s first experimental subject with an intact memory.

The upcoming episode may see a daring rescue for James, Bruce, and Lucius with the help of Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) and the Gotham City Police Department. The protagonists would also struggle to find a way to stop Strange’s inmates from running amok in Gotham City.

‘Gotham’ is an American crime-drama television series intended as a prequel to Batman’s story following a young James Gordon’s early days in the Gotham City Police Department. It is based on the DC comics characters from the Batman franchise.

The second season’s finale is scheduled to premiere on Fox on May 23, 2016.
