A couple of days remain before “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 premieres. McGarrett is expected to immediately encounter danger in the season opener. But is he going to be in more peril with the arrival of the new main villain?
The introduction of the new baddie, to be portrayed by “Mistresses” alum Rochelle Aytes, is linked to an upcoming blast from the past for McGarrett. Aytes plays the role of a former CIA Operative named Greer and will be introduced in the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 opener.
Greer’s ties do not end with her former CIA work. Reports confirmed that she is also McGarrett’s ex-girlfriend. What is still a mystery is whether or not Greer will be immediately identified as the femme fatale on the bad side in the premiere of “Hawaii Five-0” season 9.
If not, there is a chance that aside from the skills Greer acquired from CIA, she also has the advantage to lure McGarrett into trusting her. Seeing McGarrett getting involved in a new romantic relationship in “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 — even though it is a trap — will definitely stir fans’ interest.

One of the trailers for the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 premiere event shows McGarrett and Greer in a conversation. It appears that Greer informs McGarrett about a “mole in the CIA.” This indicates that the main protagonist could be tricked into believing his ex at first.
However, it does not seem like Greer will be staying for many episodes in “Hawaii Five-0” season 9. Showrunner Peter M. Lenkov previously told TVLine that Greer is “going to be a big bad in the first couple of episodes.”
Aside from McGarrett’s trip down memory lane with Greer, he is also going to take on a very dangerous mission that will retell the story from the very first episode of the franchise 50 years ago. The “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 opener is titled “Cocoon,” where McGarrett will have to endure a sensory deprivation tank while finding out who killed his old friend from CIA. McGarrett and the gang returns on Friday, Sept. 28, at 9 p.m. on CBS.
