“High School Musical 4” is finally happening as Disney just confirmed the final cast lineup for the much-awaited sequel of the “HSM.” It was rumored that the movie version is coming up but it seems that Disney decided to produce something that the fans can enjoy for a while so they opted for the fourth installment of the TV series.
It was in September 2018, when the “High School Musical 4” was announced but back then, the details were not specific yet especially who the cast would be. Now, it was revealed who the next batch of high school kids would be in the drama. As posted on Disney’s official fan club, here they are:
Ricky (Joshua Bassett), a high school junior and Nini’s ex-boyfriend, Nini (Olivia Rodrigo), the girl who discovered her voice during the summer theater camp, Kate Reinders (Ms. Jenn), the drama teacher at East High and Gina (Sofia Wylie), the transfer student who is also an experienced theater actress in “High School Musical 4.”
Moreover, there is also E.J. (Matt Cornett), Nini’s new love interest and the co-captain of the water polo team, Kourtney (Dara Reneé), Nini’s best friend who is fond of makeup tutorials so she was assigned as the costume designer for the school theater. “High School Musical 4” will also star Ashlyn (Julia Lester) as E.J.’s cousin, Carlos (Frankie Rodriguez) as a student choreographer and Big Red (Larry Saperstein) as the fuzzy skater boy.
Deadline mentioned that “High School Musical 4” will feature just 10 episodes and it will pick from where the time the first movie aired 15 years ago. Of course, fans can expect brand-new tracks with catchy tunes as well as reinterpretations of musical pieces from the original “HSM” TV show.
Commenting on the production of “High School Musical 4,” Disney Channels Worldwide’s president and CEO, Gary Marsh, said, “The challenge we handed the creative team was Herculean. How do you recapture the joy and the magic of the original High School Musical movie and simultaneously reimagine it completely? This amazingly talented and diverse cast and crew—have done exactly that!”
Finally, Disney Plus’ senior VP of content, Agnes Chu added, “We are truly excited about this extremely talented cast and the fresh and contemporary take on this globally beloved franchise. From the music and dance to the characters and hilarious meta references, there is something in the “High School Musical 4” for fans of the originals.”
