“Humankind” is an upcoming title developed by Amplitude and with Sega as its publisher. It is a 4X game, a genre of strategy game that stands for “eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate,” which makes it a competitor of Sid Meier’s “Civilization” series. Here’s what known so far about the game.
‘Humankind’ release date
Neither Sega nor Amplitude has announced a specific “Humankind” release date. At the moment, the only confirmation they gave is that the title would be out in 2020, PC Gamer reported.
Eras in ‘Humankind
“Humankind” will have six different eras and players will start with the prehistoric era when the game begins. Some of the important tasks at the point include where to place one’s settlement and whether to split the tribe to increase one’s border at the risk of weakening the tribe and being vulnerable to attacks. Of course, not splitting the tribe would mean a stronger unit but there will be less ground covered.
When the era ends, players will choose from a list of 10 cultures to play for the next era. Each culture will have its own set of traits such as Rome’s knack for empire-building or the Nubian’s skill in commerce.
The traits from the previous culture will be carried over to the next era. The various cultures that a player has used will be reflected in the different architectural styles blending together in one hex tile.
Available cultures in ‘Humankind’
Amplitude has not yet revealed all of the available cultures available in the game. However, PC Gamer reported that there will be a total of 60 cultures.
What is known at the moment is that the Chinese, Hittites, Babylonian, Germans, Egyptians, Harappans, Assyrians, Libyans, Nubians and Romans will be available as an option for the gamer at some point in the game.
It is also known that each culture will have a military unit that is unique to it. For instance, there will be Praetorians for Rome as well as rocket carts for those who chose Chinese.
‘Humankind’ victory condition
In Sid Meier’s ‘Civilization’ series, there are a number of ways to win the game. One can pursue a scientific victory, a cultural victory or simply a military victory where one kills all it the competing civs.
But the victory condition for “Humankind” is a bit different. It is achieved by the fame of the player’s character. There are a number of ways to gain fame which include building impressive projects, having a massive city, or simply defeating enemies.
In “Humankind,” fame is represented by stars. One can earn up to 21 stars in each era. Since there are only six eras in the game, the highest possible score is 126 stars.
