There is no doubt that “John Wick: Chapter 3” is one of the most highly anticipated action movies to come out in the near future. However, those who don’t like to see their favorite characters suffer might be in for a wild ride. It would appear that Keanu Reeves would like to see John Wick suffer unimaginable pain. At least, this is what the movie’s director revealed about the actor and their plans for the film.
In a recent interview with USA Today, “John Wick: Chapter 3” director Chad Stahelski shared some details as to what fans can expect from the movie. It would appear that there will be a fair amount of suffering on the part of the film’s titular character and Keanu Reeves is actually encouraging it. Might the actor be displaying some masochistic tendencies?
“I'm a big fan of Joseph Campbell's mythologies of the hero and what he would have defined as the theater of pain, or sometimes we call it ‘The Die Hard Conundrum’: We just to like to beat the (stuffing) out of our heroes,” Stahelski said. “If you choose that kind of lifestyle, you're going to be pretty beat up. So we like John Wick to suffer and think Keanu loves for John Wick to suffer, too.”
This is a rather interesting thing to say about the character and the movie since he has already gone through the wringer quite a bit. The first film saw him losing his wife and his dog, while the second one featured the man being used as a pawn and then thrown aside. What more can they take away from him in “John Wick: Chapter 3” other than his life?
As for when fans can expect “John Wick: Chapter 3” to hit theatres, that would be on May 17. It’s just a few months away to see the legendary hitman kill folks and pet dogs.
