The “Kingdom Hearts” franchise is finally getting an official PC launch after almost 19 years, but there is a catch. It will be exclusively available on Epic Games Store starting next month.
‘Kingdom Hearts’ PC release date
The days of “Kingdom Hearts” being a console-only video game will be over in more than a month. The franchise’s three main collections will be released on PC through the Epic Games Store on March 30. It is worth noting that this date is just a few days after the 19th anniversary of the first-ever “Kingdom Hearts” that came out on March 28, 2002, on PlayStation 2 in Japan.
Making things easier for PC gamers, the release of “Kingdom Hearts” will be available through the three collections that Square Enix launched over the years. Each contains remasters of the original games launched since the early 2000s and will be sold separately on Epic Games Store.
The “Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX” will be available for $49.99. This bundle includes “Kingdom Hearts FINAL MIX,” “Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories,” “Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days” with HD Remastered cinematics, “Kingdom Hearts II FINAL MIX,” “Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX,” and “Kingdom Hearts Re:coded with HD Remastered cinematics as well.
“Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue” will be released for $59.99, which includes “Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD,” “Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep,” and the “KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover” movie.” For the same price, Epic will offer the bundle of “Kingdom Hearts 3” with its only DLC “Re:Mind.” The rhythm action game “Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory” featuring more than 140 songs and serves as the ultimate recap of the Dark Seeker Saga.
Is ‘Kingdom Hearts’ arriving in Steam?
Square Enix and Epic have likely inked some form of exclusivity deal because, again, the “Kingdom Hearts” PC launch is also available through Epic Games Store. Many fans are excited about the PC release and have already started imagining the possible modded content they can get. But others cannot enjoy the announcement that much because the series is not launching on Steam.
The teasers released by Square Enix do not include any hints whether this is just a timed exclusivity. In that case, the “Kingdom Hearts” might be released on Steam after a year.
