One of the most iconic roles that propelled Nina Dobrev to stardom is her playing Elena Gilbert in the supernatural hit series “The Vampire Diaries.” But since the show has ended in 2017, most of the series’ casts have moved on to tackle new projects.
However, speculations run abound on the web that Nina Dobrev might be coming back to “The Vampire Diaries” universe. Yes, the supernatural drama has ended but it has also birthed a new spin-off series called “Legacies.”
And it’s in this show that fans are hoping to see the return of Elena Gilbert. Unfortunately, that won’t be happening anytime soon as Nina Dobrev’s commitment with her new sitcom with CBS is restricting her working schedule.
"I have a full-time job here, so I don't know that I can," Nina Dobrev said regarding the possibility of a cameo with the spin-off series. "But I'm excited and happy to see that the show is living on, and it's a testament to the show itself that people love it so much and have a hunger for it and have an appetite that they need to satiate.”
Disheartening as this may be, the possibility of Nina Dobrev appearing on “Legacies” is still on the table. Kaylee Bryant, who plays Josie Saltzman in “Legacies,” said that there’s an open-door policy for all “The Vampire Diaries” actors on the spin-off series.
So if ever Nina Dobrev’s schedule ever gets a breather in the future, the actress might give the cameo a shot. The problem is how they’re going to integrate Elena into the series’ narrative since the character became human by the end of “The Vampire Diaries.”
But since “Legacies” is being spearheaded by Julie Plec, there’s still a chance of it happening. After all, Plec has time and again proven her writing skills to be the best out there. Even Nina Dobrev said that the writer/producer is a force to be reckoned with and said Plec is the new Shonda Rhimes.
