There are very few updates that came out about “Now You See Me 3.” However, many are expecting the movie series to maintain a three-year gap between installments. This means the third film could be out before this year ends. The production is also expected to beef up its cast with reported addition of Benedict Cumberbatch.
The first movie of the series premiered in 2013 and was followed by the same title sequel in 2016. In 2015, Variety reported that the works for “Now You See Me 3” has actually started that early. The confirmation came from no less than Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer during a quarterly earnings call. “We’ve already begun early planning for ‘Now You See Me 3,'” Feltheimer said.
If the pre-production did start as early as 2015, there is a huge chance that “Now You See Me 3” could get a 2019 premiere date. However, it is also important to note that reports of the movie’s filming are seemingly non-existent. So it is safe to assume that actual production has yet to start, but it is still early in 2019, and if Lionsgate intends to release the movie soon, they might do it sometime in the last quarter of the year.
Despite the lack of fresh news about “Now You See Me 3,” Lionsgate is unlikely scrapping the project. They brought in writers Neil Widener and Gavin James to work on the script as early as 2016, according to a report from Deadline. The second movie also did well in the box office after bagging more than $334 million in ticket sales worldwide.
The main characters, known in the movies as the Four Horsemen, played by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Lizzy Caplan (who replaced Isla Fisher) are expected to reprise their roles. There have been rumors that Cumberbatch is joining the cast of “Now You See Me 3,” but the scope of his character is still unknown.
