Mount Pleasant, March 14, 2018 -- Both McMullan’s Pub of Las Vegas and The Pub Pembroke of Pembroke Pines, have been named winners of the 2018 Best Fish and Chips in the U.S. contest. The dishes were judged on batter consistency, fish freshness, perfect chip texture and how well the dish complemented “Old Speckled Hen.” Out of a possible 110 points, both accounts deadlocked, earning an impressive 105 points.

“I would like to congratulate all of the participants that took part in the competition,” says Old Speckled Hen Global Brand Manager, Gemma Woolnough. “Whilst the food we sampled was fantastic, we are equally impressed with the focus and care all put into promoting “Old Speckled Hen.’”
Hosted by “Old Speckled Hen,” the UK’s number one premium English Ale, the contest began last November with participation of over 100 pubs across the country. Rounding out the top five finalists, were McCleary’s Pub of Marietta, PA; Red Lion British Pub of Houston, TX and The Celtic Ray of Punta Gorda, FL, each earning nearly 100 points in the weeklong taste test featuring Greene King judges visiting from Bury St. Edmonds, England.
"We are thrilled to receive this honor from such an exceptional company like Old Speckled Hen," says Tavern Restaurant Group owner Nick Sanders, "Our team works hard everyday to bring an authentic British pub experience to every guest and an award like this means we must be doing something right." He adds, "We are also incredibly grateful to our loyal patrons and staff who helped make this special recognition possible."
Brian McMullan, proprietor of McMullan’s, responded to the news, “We’ve achieved what we set out to do fifteen years ago, serve the perfect pint, the same great Fish & Chips every time and to build a community of friends. Our friends, our Fish & Chips and our Old Speckled Hen are all doing really well! We are absolutely delighted to have been selected by Old Speckled Hen as serving the Best Fish & Chips in America. We are so pleased at this honor, which acknowledges and is a great testament to our dedicated staff and loyal customers.”
“We would like to congratulate both McMullan’s Pub and The Pub at Pembroke Pines,” says Gemma, “The competition was splendid this year and everyone involved was so accommodating and really did an impressive job with their Fish & Chips and Old Speckled Hen. I am overly impressed and can’t wait to come back! Well done to all!”
