“Peaky Blinders” season 5 has been confirmed to move to a new home. It will now air via BBC One and the network recently released the action drama’s first video teaser to give fans a glimpse of what is up ahead when the fifth installment finally airs.
The teaser was only a few seconds long since it is just part of the whole BBC One trailer for its upcoming shows in 2019. Despite this, fans are excited and shocked at the same time for it seems that somebody has died in “Peaky Blinders” season 5.
Plot
What will happen in “Peaky Blinders” season 5? When the fourth installment concluded, Tommy Shelby was voted to be an MP for Birmingham South and his family has finally faced off with Luca Changretta, the mob boss. The story will pick up from this scenario and based on the recent teaser, the fight among the gangsters would escalate.
As can be seen in the video, Tommy’s car was blown up and he looks very distraught as he cradles a body in his arms. The unknown man probably died from the blast but his identity is yet to be revealed when “Peaky Blinders” season 5 airs.
Moreover, as shared by Independent, the fifth installment’s synopsis reads: “The world is thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere."
In addition, “When Tommy Shelby MP is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realizes that his response will affect not just his family's future but that of the entire nation."
In his previous interview with Birmingham Mail, series creator Steven Knight also revealed that “Peaky Blinders” season 5 will be set in the 1930s when economic depression is gripping England. Aside from this info, the showrunner is tight-lipped on what else can be expected in the series.
"We are going into the 30s now,” he told Birmingham Mail (via Maxim). “There is so much stuff happening, so why not finish the job? The depression and the rise of fascism form part of the storyline."
Cast
As the Shelby clan returns in “Peaky Blinders” season 5, it was announced that Cillian Murphy is coming back to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby. As per BBC, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Kate Phillips, Harry Kirton, Packy Lee, Ned Dennehy, Ian Peck, Benjamin Zephaniah and Natasha O’Keef are also in the confirmed cast lineup.
They will be supported by Aidan Gillen, Jack Rowan, Charlie Murphy and Kingsley Ben-Adir. “Peaky Blinders” season 5 will also feature new cast members including Sam Claflin, Brian Gleeson, Neil Maskell, Kate Dickie, Cosmos Jarvis and Emmett Scanlan. Season 5 is directed by Anthony Byrne and produced by Annie Harrison-Baxter.
Air Date
The release of the short clip for “Peaky Blinders” season 5 is one indication that it is coming very soon. Although BBC One did not mention any release date, the drama’s air date is obviously drawing near so fans should stay tuned for the announcement.
