This Winter, Downtown Pensacola will roll out the welcome mat for travelers of a different sort — the intergalactic kind. Pensacon 2018 — the Gulf Coast’s annual celebration of all things nerdy — will kick off Feb. 23 and run through Feb. 25. Headquartered at the Pensacola Bay Center and the Pensacola Grand Hotel, Pensacon brings with it a full roster of celebrity guests, fandom-themed parties and reveling cosplayers.
For three days in February, Wookiees, Daleks, Trekkies, Hogwarts students and superheroes become a common sight in historic Downtown Pensacola. Even the airport gets in the act, upgrading from merely International to the Pensacola Intergalactic Airport.
Among the most anticipated guests this year: Jason Isaacs from the “Harry Potter” film series and the HBO series “Game of Thrones”; “Sons of Anarchy” and “Bates Motels” actor Ryan Hurst; “Star Trek” mogul Brent Spiner; “Power Rangers” star Jason David Frank; the famed “Incredible Hulk,” Lou Ferrigno,; voice actor Christ Sarandon from the “Princes Bride”, “Nightmare Before Christmas,” and “Fright Night”; and a slew of Marvel Entertainment actors and actresses that include John Barrowman, Alex Kingston, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Arthur Darvill.
VIP passes for this year’s event are sold out, but regular weekend passes are still are available for $65. Single-day tickets start at $30 and will be available for purchase beginning January 1, 2017. Children 10 and under are admitted free.
