“Project Runway” season 17 is not expected to premiere this year but major cast changes were already confirmed on Wednesday. New faces are joining the fashion competition show but these personalities are certainly not strangers to the world of fashion nor to the TV show.
Bravo TV announced 26-year-old supermodel Karlie Kloss is taking on the hosting gig for “Project Runway” season 17. The former Victoria’s Secret angel will replace Heidi Klum — the show's host since the first season.
Klum addressed the major changes in “Project Runway” season 17 in a statement with reference to her popular line on the show. Klum said, “After 16 incredible seasons, I am saying ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to Project Runway, a show that I was honored to host and help create.”
Meanwhile, Kloss celebrated her new gig through an Instagram update and promised that “Project Runway” season 17 will have the “boldest and best collection yet.” Aside from modeling for the biggest fashion labels around the world, Kloss is also known for her love of computer programming.
“Project Runway” season 17 is also the very first installment that will air without Tim Gunn. Just like Klum, Gunn had been on the show since the beginning as the contestants' mentor. He will be replaced by someone familiar to the show's fans — season 4 winner Christian Siriano.
“‘Project Runway’ has offered such wonderful opportunities for so many and I’m excited to take on this role as a mentor,” Siriano said about “Project Runway” season 17 in a statement. “I hope to guide and inspire the new talent on the rise.”
Elle editor-in-chief Nina Garcia will return to head the panel of judges in “Project Runway” season 17. She will be joined by Teen Vogue EIC Elaine Welteroth and fashion designer Brandon Maxwell.
Fans will have to wait until 2019 for the debut of “Project Runway” season 17 and its new cast members. But Bravo TV confirmed that pre-production had started at the time the new host and judges were announced.
