Samsung has been rumored to refresh its entry-level tablet series this year with a device dubbed as Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. Even before the South Korean tech giant can even hint at its next Unpacked event, the technical specifications sheet of the tablet may have leaked already.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite specs, design
As suggested by the “Lite” in the tablet’s name, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite reportedly sports a smaller screen that measures 8.7-inch with an LCD panel and 1340 x 800 resolution. The information comes from prominent tech leaker Roland Quandt of WinFuture, who also indicated that the device will be powered by a processor made by MediaTek.
Specifically, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is expected to feature the MediaTek MT8768x SoC. It is not the usual Snapdragon-labeled product Samsung fans are more used to. However, it should still offer an ample CPU that could at least be on par with the performance of the Snapdragon 662 on the 10.4-inch Galaxy Tab A7 from last year.
There would be a slight downgrade in the selfie camera as it reportedly has 2-megapixel resolution only, unlike the 10.4-inch Galaxy Tab A7’s 5MP. The main camera will remain at 8MP, with the capacity to capture full HD videos.
No important changes are being reported when it comes to the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite memory configurations. The tablet is expected to offer 3GB RAM and come in either 32GB or 64GB storage options, along with a microSD slot. It is anticipated to ship with a 5100mAh battery, and the decrease from 7040mAh capacity in its bigger sibling should be explained by the differences in the form factor.
Not much is changing in terms of the design. However, all leaked renders of Galaxy Tab A7 Lite suggest that it will have relatively thinner bezels compared to the 10.4-inch model. Considering the smaller screen size in the “Lite” tablet, having thinner bezels is the right call.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite release date
In terms of pricing, leaker SnoopyTech on Twitter provides a more specific detail. The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Wi-Fi variant will reportedly cost EUR147 (~$179) and the LTE version might be priced at EUR174 (~$212).
SnoopyTech claimed that the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite would be released in May. This is conflicts with the information provided by known Samsung tipster WalkingCat, who reported last February that the new tablets would be launched in June.
