The city government of Seoul will distribute 7,000 electric motorcycles this year.in efforts plans to replace all full-time delivery motorcycles with electric models by 2025.
This is the largest annual volume of electric motorcycles to be distributed since the Seoul Metropolitan Government launched the program.
This year’s distribution of electric models will be equivalent to 60 percent of the cumulative number of motorcycles distributed, which would be 11,798 units, over the past 12 years.
Seoul is placing a lot of effort on replacing delivery vehicles with internal combustion engines, which have been identified as a major source of noise pollution in residential areas, while also generating an enormous number of greenhouse gases when compared to standard motorcycles because their driving distance is five times greater.
In the first half of this year, around 4,000 electric motorbikes will be distributed. Of the 3,000 units earmarked for private sector distribution, 1,400—or 46 percent—will be for delivery uses.
Following them will be 800 units for individuals or 27 percent, 500 units for businesses accounting for 17 percent, and 300 units or 10 percent for those on the priority list.
