The next-generation consoles from both Sony and Microsoft’s Xbox are likely going to be released more than a year from now. But both have already taken over the headlines since E3 happened and now many fans are likely wondering what video games are going to be released on PlayStation 5.
PlayStation 5 games: Sony expected to release anticipated AAA sequels
Sony has successfully built a lineup of AAA titles that are exclusively available on its consoles. Reports have it that PlayStation 5 and the product of Project Scarlett may have comparable specs and performance. That means that Sony’s chance of gaining a huge advantage is by announcing much-requested sequels of AAA games from the Sony Interactive Entertainment library.
In recent years, some of the biggest video games exclusive on the PlayStation platform include “Horizon Zero Dawn,” “God of War,” and “Gran Turismo” among others. These titles, or its next iterations, are also some of the most expected games to launch on PlayStation 5 in the near future.
There are also other video games already announced and confirmed to be released on PlayStation 4 this year and beyond 2019. Those include Hideo Kojima’s “Death Stranding” and Naughty Dog’s “The Last of Us Part 2.” While these games are launching on PlayStation 4, they are also most likely going to be developed as playable on PlayStation 5.
Many other older games are also expected to be playable on PlayStation 5 since the next-generation console is anticipated to support backward compatibility. The future announcement and retail release of PlayStation 5 also do not necessarily mean that all 91.6 million users of PlayStation 4 (as of January) will immediately stop using the currently available console. So it would make sense that in the next few years many games developed for PlayStation 5 will also launch on PlayStation 4.
PlayStation 5 release date, specs, price
The official release date of PlayStation 5 is still under wraps, but it surely will not arrive in 2019. Meanwhile, there are various rumors hinting at a retail release in the holiday season of 2020.
So far, it has been confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will be powered by a custom, 7-nanometer CPU designed after AMD’s Ryzen lineup. Meanwhile, its GPU is slated to be created by AMD as well based on its Navi architecture. Sony also wants to keep the public guessing how much the PlayStation 5 would cost. There are reports that it might only cost $499 — a slight increase from its predecessor. But there are also speculations that the price tag could go as high as $800 per unit.
