British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will urge around 25 world leaders to ramp up support for Ukraine and pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a ceasefire. The Saturday video call, involving Western nations like Europe, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, aims to secure financial, military, and logistical aid for Kyiv.
Starmer seeks firm commitments from allies to strengthen Ukraine’s position in peace talks and ensure its long-term security. He has suggested Britain could send peacekeepers in a ceasefire scenario but insists Washington must provide a security "backstop" to deter further Russian aggression.
"If Russia finally comes to the table, we must ensure a serious and lasting peace. If not, we must intensify economic pressure to end this war," Starmer stated. He accused Putin of stalling negotiations by demanding "pointless conditions," such as Ukraine abandoning its NATO ambitions, ceding occupied regions, and limiting its army—terms Kyiv has firmly rejected.
Putin recently signaled openness to a U.S.-proposed ceasefire but insists fighting must continue until his conditions are met. Starmer, however, remains resolute, vowing to work tirelessly to bring peace and halt Russia’s attacks.
