Since Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise got divorced in 2012, their only daughter Suri Cruise has been under the custody of the actress. However, with the holidays approaching there are rumors that Suri’s father suddenly wants to spend some time with her.
“Katie’s absolutely panicking over the fact that she may lose Suri for the holidays. Tom’s been completely absent from Suri’s life for years. She has no idea why he’s walking back in now – especially since he knows how important Christmas is to Katie,” a source said in a story ran by tabloid Star.
The same report further claimed that Tom’s attempt to be reunited with Suri is only for show allegedly to better his image in the press. Star’s source reportedly insisted that it was an idea orchestrated by Tom and his church. How true can these claims be?
Fact-checking news outlet Gossip Cop recalled several other reports that did not pan out from Star where Suri Cruise and Tom Cruise were the main subjects. More importantly, the publication got confirmation from Katie Holmes’ spokesperson that Suri will be with her throughout the holidays.
The details of Holmes and Tom’s divorce were kept very private. However, known Church of Scientology critic Leah Remini previously suggested that their settlement included “prohibitive” clauses. Remini alleged that Holmes could lose Suri if she ever comments about Tom’s religion since their split. “Trust me, Katie's not allowed to have a meal with me, and we used to be close friends. She could lose custody of Suri. It's quite sick, really," Remini told LaPalme Magazine (via E!)
Meanwhile, since Suri Cruise has only been seen with her mother since her parents’ divorce in 2012, one can assume that Katie Holmes got full physical and legal custody of the 12-year-old girl. However, Us Weekly reported in October that Tom Cruise is allowed to regularly visit her daughter. An insider claimed Tom was given the right to see Suri every month for 10 days but it has been his decision not to visit her.
