Tesla's Giga Berlin facility reached a production milestone of 400,000 vehicles by the end of September, just two and a half years after it began Model Y production. The milestone was celebrated with a pizza party for employees, though plant manager André Thierig stressed the importance of future growth.
Tesla Celebrates 400,000 Vehicles at Giga Berlin, but Plant Manager Highlights Industry Challenges
According to a recent report from Germany, Tesla Giga Berlin produced its 400,000th vehicle at the end of September. The facility accomplished the milestone two and a half years after starting Model Y production.
Handelsblatt cited internal conversation messages from Tesla Germany on September 25. The publication asserted that the electric vehicle manufacturer commemorated the achievement by organizing a pizza party and an extended employee break. According to the publication, André Thierig, the plant manager of Giga Berlin, was not necessarily thrilled about the milestone.
Although producing 400,000 vehicles in two and a half years is relatively impressive, Thierig, according to Teslarati, has recently emphasized that other manufacturers in Germany are facing significant challenges. Handelsblatt asserted that the executive asked the Tesla Germany team whether they would prefer to be in a comparable position to Volkswagen.
Volkswagen is currently confronted with various obstacles, as indicated in a report from Ecomento. According to reports, the automaker is contemplating layoffs, increasing its savings objectives, and possibly closing its plants.
“I’m not trying to do any kind of VW bashing or anything. (But what is happening in Wolfsburg is really) very, very, very dramatic,” Thierig reportedly noted.
Tesla’s Giga Berlin Manager Warns of Volkswagen’s Struggles, Urges Team to Focus on Growth
According to the Giga Berlin plant manager, Volkswagen is reportedly one of the world's largest car manufacturers; however, the company is experiencing challenging times. "Yes, it appears to be quite unappealing..." You are all required to ask yourselves the question now, not here or today, but fundamentally: Do you wish for us to follow this path as well? Thierig, according to reports, stated.
The Tesla Model Y, the company's best-selling model and the world's best-selling passenger vehicle by volume last year, is the sole vehicle that Giga Berlin currently produces. Despite its high sales figures, the Model Y remains a premium all-electric crossover unaffordable for car buyers with a limited budget.
On the other hand, Thierig is said to have encouraged the Tesla Germany team to persist in their efforts. “We want to be back in the sun. We don’t want to end up like the others. We should continue to grow, we should continue to be successful together, we shouldn’t have to go down that path one day,” he said.
