CBS's sitcom about the unlikely situation of an aspiring actress sharing an apartment floor with two socially-awkward physicists is finally ending with “The Big Bang Theory” season 12.
Kaley Cuoco, during an interview on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” expressed her sadness about the show broadcasting its final season when it returns with “The Big Bang Theory” season 12's premiere episode in the last week of September. But sadness may not be the only thing that Kaley Cuoco and fans of the show have in common.
During the interview with James Corden, Kaley Cuoco mentions one final request she has for “The Big Bang Theory” season 12. Cuoco, who plays aspiring actress Penny, brings up the broken elevator in Penny and Leonard's (Johnny Galecki) apartment building. A character unto itself, the elevator shaft has been an important part of some the show's more memorable story arcs.
Fans who have seen “The Big Bang Theory” season 3 will remember the reason for the elevator's disrepair. Leonard had created a new formula for rocket fuel, the mixture for which he miscalculated. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) saves his life by dropping the concoction into the elevator before it exploded.
The elevator was also involved in a couple of episodes that featured Raj's (Kunal Nayyar) scavenger hunt and it is also mentioned that Penny and Leonard threw their Christmas tree down the elevator shaft after discovering wild animals were living in it. Even Howard (Simon Helberg), the group's resident engineer, tried to fix the elevator to no avail. The fact that it has yet to be repaired even after the show's last season has already been announced is an anomaly that only sitcoms can pull off.
Fans looking forward to watching the cast of the show in their last set of adventures can catch “The Big Bang Theory” season 12 when it airs its premiere episode on Sept. 24.
