The National Football League (NFL) was formed in 1920. It was first called the American Professional Football Association. It’s one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States. It’s considered to be the wealthiest and contains the most valuable teams.

An NFL season has a three-week preseason in August. It’s followed by the 18-week regular season from early September to early January. Each team plays 17 games and one bye week.

Seven teams from the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC) will then proceed to the single-elimination playoff games. The season culminates with the Super Bowl in February. The AFC and NFC conference champions compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The 2023 NFL season is just around the corner. According to the betting odds, here’s a list of the eight (8) early favorite teams to win Super Bowl LVIII.

American Football Conference (AFC)

The American Football Conference (AFC) is one of the two conferences in the NFL. It was created in 1970 by the NFL and the American Football League (AFL) merger. All ten teams in the AFL and three NFL teams formed the AFC. Currently, it has 16 teams with four divisions.

Kansas City Chiefs

The reigning Super Bowl champion, Kansas City Chiefs, is still the heavy favorite to win the Super Bowl LVIII. They’re currently the best team in the NFL. They have on their team the best quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who is looking to carry the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl win in five (5) years.

Pundits project them to maintain their 14-3 record this upcoming season even though they have one of the most challenging schedules. Betting odds also have them at +600 on winning again. Supporting the Chiefs by checking out live NFL odds and placing a bet on NFL spreads would be wise for every fan.

Buffalo Bills

With +900 betting odds, the Buffalo Bills are considered one of the top contenders to win the Super Bowl this season. They were the projected top team last season, but injuries to key players relegated them to the second-best record in the AFC.

In 2023, the Bills are projected to have a 12-5 record, two more losses than last season. However, the team has a good chance of being competitive with the Chiefs if they see each other in the playoffs since it has one of the best young talents in the NFL. In fact, Josh Allen is the only active quarterback who can be toe-to-toe with Mahomes.

Cincinnati Bengals

The 2021 AFC champion and 2022 AFC runner-up want to dethrone the Chiefs. It currently has a +900 betting odds of winning the Super Bowl. The team’s top player, Joe Burrow, is now 100% healthy and is expected to help the Bengals rip off their easy early scheduled games. Pundits are currently projecting them to maintain their 13-4 record.

New York Jets

When Aaron Rodgers joined the New York Jets, the team’s winning odds are now at +1400. Pundits project that the Nets will greatly improve their last season’s losing 7-10 record to a winning 10-7 record this 2023 season if they stay above .500 after a competitive open first six weeks.

National Football Conference (NFC)

The other conference in the NFL is the National Football Conference (NFC). Like the AFC, it was created in 1970 after the AFL and NFL merger. Thirteen original NFL members became the first teams in the conference. Today, there are now 16 teams divided into four divisions.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles want to repeat their NFC championship this season to have another shot at the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl LVII runner-up currently has the second-best betting odds at +800.

Pundits are projecting the Eagles to have a 10-7 record, a four-win that decreased from the previous season. This is because their schedule went from the easiest in 2022 to the most difficult in 2023. Still, the team is very young, and its franchise quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is already breaking records.

San Francisco 49ers

After finishing last season as the NFC runner-up, the San Francisco 49ers want to avenge their defeat. They’re currently tied with the Eagles at +800 betting odds to win the Super Bowl. Pundits expect them to retain a 12-5 record this season. This project all hinges on the improved skill set of Trey Lance and the injury update of Brock Purdy.

Dallas Cowboys

One of the most expensive teams in the NFL is also a favorite to win Super Bowl LVIII. It has a +1500 winning odds of claiming the title. Pundits are projecting the Cowboys to win 10 to 12 games. The team’s final record this 2023 season hinges on their offense around star player Mike McCarthy.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are looking to break the curse of being the only NFL team to have never played in the Super Bowl. The Lions have played in every single game since the introduction of the Super Bowl, but it remained elusive to the team.

This 2023 season, the Lions have a +2500 betting odds of finally playing and winning Super Bowl LVIII. Pundits project them to have an improved 10-7 record. They could start by shocking the world if they could defeat the defending Super Bowl champions in their first game.

Conclusion

The Super Bowl is one of the most watched sporting events in the United States. It provides viewers with world-class entertainment during the anticipated half-time show, where famous singers perform their greatest hits. Most importantly, the Super Bowl also provides a high-class championship game between the two best teams in the NFL.

If you want to know if one of these early favorites or the underdog teams wins the Super Bowl LVIII, you’ll have to watch the upcoming season first.
