The making of “The Last Kingdom” season 4 has been confirmed by Netflix for a few weeks now. This means the guessing game of its official release date has begun.
The show’s hiatus between the finale and the premiere of a new season has always taken more than a year to end. And fans can expect nothing less in the case of “The Last Kingdom” season 4. Reports are eyeing the possibility that it might take until the spring of 2020 for news episodes to stream on Netflix.
There were roughly 15 months before season 2 followed season 1’s finale, with the second installment being a co-production project of BBC and Netflix. The third season’s release took longer — about 18 month — as report attribute it to the transfer of sole production and distribution rights over to Netflix. Since Netflix has yet to officially announce when “The Last Kingdom” season 4 will premiere, the most logical guess would be to follow the show’s previous schedules.
Season 3’s 10 episodes dropped all at once (in true Netflix style) last Nov. 19. Then on Dec. 21, the cast of “The Last Kingdom” season 4 confirmed in a very witty manner that the show has been renewed. Fans have yet to hear any news about the start of the production but if nothing causes any delay, it is safe to expect an April or May 2020 premiere.
ATTENTION ARSELINGS. Uhtred and co. have some exciting news to bring a little extra festive cheer!

However, Digital Spy reports that Netflix might want to cut down the gap and shoot for a November 2019 release date. In that case, the first official trailer for “The Last Kingdom” season 4 might debut during the San Diego Comic-Con in July.
As for the “The Last Kingdom” season 4 plot, the next 10 episodes are most likely based on the seventh and eighth installments of Bernard Cornwell’s “The Saxon Stories” series — “The Pagan Lord” and “The Empty Throne.”
