‘The Last Kingdom’ Season 4 News & Update: Netflix Just Renewed the Series and Here are the Details

“The Last Kingdom” season 4 is really on its way as Netflix confirmed that it renewed the Saxon novel series drama. The order for new episodes was relayed to the fans through social media on December 21, 2018.

Via “The Last Kingdom” season 4’s official Twitter, the announcement was posted and it reads: “Attention Arselings, Uhtred and co. have some exciting news to bring a little extra festive cheer!” They also added that hashtags #TheLastKingdom #Netflix and #GoingToSeason4 that clearly indicates that the streaming site just gave the go-ahead for the fourth installment.

At any rate, the “The Last Kingdom” season 4’s renewal was a bit unexpected because the third season was only released the month before. Typically, if there are new orders, the notice should come by either January or February of this year. This only shows that the series is one of the best and most-watched in the popular streaming site.

What is the series about?

“The Last Kingdom” season 4 is based on Bernard Cornwell’s “The Saxon Stories” novel series so the drama is set in the 9th century AD. It tells the story of Uhtred, a Saxon who was raised by the Danes but believed to have betrayed the people who brought him up. He was forced to fled and settled in the only kingdom that the Danish has no control of – the kingdom of Wessex.

Uhtred then allied with King Alfred and he betrayed the Danish even more by revealing their secrets to the king. The information that he shared is vital because by applying those, the Danes could be defeated in a war.

“The Last Kingdom” season 4 will likely feature David Dawson (King Alfred), Alexander Doetsch (Uhtred), Millie Brady (Aethelflaed, daughter of King Alfred), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), Toby Regbo (Aethelred) and Emily Cox (Brida). The newcomers who were introduced in season 3 like Magnus Bruun (Cnut), Tygo Gernandt (Jackdaw) and Thea Sofie Loch Naess (Skade ) are also expected to come back.

Digital Spy suggested that “The Last Kingdom” season 4 could premiere in March or April next year. This was the estimation because the first season was released in October 2015, the next was in March 2017 and the latest was in November 2018. Although the release dates are inconsistent, one thing is sure, it could take more than one and a half year so the predicted month is just right.
