Naughty Dog is currently hard at work on “The Last of Us Part 2” and fans are getting quite excited about the upcoming sequel to the post-apocalyptic game. However, it would appear that some publications are getting a bit too eager, with The Onion sarcastically reporting a 2019 release. In response, a developer Tweeted an equally sardonic comment.
As GameSpot reports, Arne Meyer, the one responsible for managing the community for Naughty Dog recently responded to an article by The Onion. The publication claimed that “The Last of Us Part 2” was coming out in 2019. For those who may not be aware, though, The Onion is an outlet for parodies and satirical commentary.
This essentially meant that for anyone who understood what it was, it was clear that the “The Last of Us Part 2” article is meant to be a joke. In response, Meyer posted a Tweet that reads, “We've made it when @TheOnion has a comedy post about you, right???”

(amazing! never thought something I worked on would end up here when I first started picking up The Onion in the midwest back in 94.) https://t.co/XThP7IXvkH
Well, the appropriate response to a joke is certainly to also make a joke, so this would qualify as a good way to address the matter. On that note, what clearly is not a joke are the comments of developers with regards to the characters in “The Last of Us Part 2.”
Naughty Dog vice president, Neil Druckmann recently said that all bets are off in the upcoming sequel where absolutely no one is safe. This means that either Ellie or Joel could be up for the chopping block, which would certainly be a huge twist when considering the first game. Killing the main character in “The Last of Us Part 2” would be quite the “Game of Thrones” thing to do.
As of now, there are no official details as to when “The Last of Us Part 2” is actually getting released. However, 2019 seems to be a bit of a stretch.
