George R.R. Martin, a.k.a. the creator of Westeros and the “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga, recently posted an update and confirmed a book arriving in 2019. Unfortunately, it is still not “The Winds of Winter.”
The renowned author discussed the upcoming 20th anniversary of the “A Clash of Kings” launch. The second installment to the “A Song of Ice and Fire” was first published in 1999, which means the novel is hitting its second-decade mark in 2019. Like how they celebrated the same milestone for “A Game of Thrones,” Martin confirmed that a new edition of “A Clash of Kings” will be published sometime next year. Unfortunately, “The Winds of Winter” was not discussed in this blog post earlier this week.
The latest mention of “The Winds of Winter” from Martin’s “Not A Blog” website happened in a post earlier this month. He let fans in on the latest happenings related to the launch of “Fire and Blood.” The author celebrated the fact that, in less than a month, his newest book was already named the no. 1 best-selling title by the New York Times and United Kingdom’s The Times.
“And most of all, my thanks go out to my fans and readers. I know you want [‘The Winds of Winter’], and I am going to give it to you… but I am delighted that you stayed with me for this one as well. Your patience and unflagging support means the world to me,” George R.R. Martin wrote.
Meanwhile, the launch of “Fire and Blood” have also sparked hope that “The Winds of Winter” could be coming along in 2019. Martin admitted that finishing “Fire and Blood” allows him to focus on the much-awaited sixth volume of “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
Many fans are understandably upset that Martin managed to write and publish an entirely new book series even before “The Winds of Winter” comes out, which has been seven years in the making. But the author explained to the Guardian that writing “The Winds of Winter” is far more challenging than “Fire and Blood.”
“The Winds of Winter” means working on “different protagonist, each having a different cast of supporting players, antagonists, allies and lovers around them, and all of these weaving together against the march of time in an extremely complex fashion,” Martin further explained.
